A Home of Your OwnHOME MODIFICATION / HOME ASSIST / SECUREA joint pilot project with Queensland Health and other relevant agencies has been established to trial a home modifications grant assistance scheme for older people and people with a disability. This scheme will cater mostly for people who own or are buying their homes in the private housing sector and who are eligible for assistance under the Home and Community Care Program. The Department plans to investigate the development of a complementary home modifications assistance scheme for people who are not eligible for assistance under the Home and Community Care Program or other programs. For further information contact the Department of Housing - Disability Services Unit on 3227 7371. Home Assist/Secure is a service that aims to remove some of the practical housing related difficulties experienced by older people and people with a disability who wish to remain living in their home. The service provides free information and advice about home maintenance, repairs and modifications, and home security. Subsidised assistance with minor home maintenance, repairs, modifications and security, which relate to health, safety and security, is also available for eligible clients. To be eligible for free information and advice, people must be 60 years and over or of any age with a disability, and own their home or live in private rental housing. To be eligible for subsidised assistance, people must also be in receipt of a Commonwealth Government pension or benefit, and unable to make use of alternative forms of assistance, such as Home and Community Care, Veterans Affairs, family or friends.
